Nottingham’s first ever Fashion Week kicked off last weekend with a dazzling collection of local and well-known designer outfits hitting the runway.
As fashionistas flock to the city to catch the coolest clothes on show, the team at OAKS bar and restaurant is flaunting its own trendy cocktail creations.
Head bartender, Paco Llansola commented on what’s popular at the Bromley Place bar.
“It’s really important for us at OAKS to have a unique list of cocktails that give people a little bit of what they know and love but with some clever twists. Drinks like gin and tequila will always be old school favourites but adding fresh ingredients and new flavours brings them bang up-to-date.
“One of the most on-trend things around at the moment is to support local suppliers and producers. Fashion Week is showcasing some amazing local designers and brands so cocktails like the Midlands Spritz, which includes a healthy dose of Castle Rock Harvest Pale Ale, will go down a treat.”
Here are a few cocktails that the city’s stylish elite can enjoy during Nottingham Fashion Week:
First up is the Midlands Spritz, a crisp and refreshing twist on the classic Aperol Spritz – a typical Italian aperitif from Venice, where Harvest Pale Ale replaces the traditional Prosecco., pushing the current beer trend by mixing it up with fresh ingredients.
Paco explains how people can make their own Midlands Spritz at home:
“Take a 250ml wine glass pour 20ml of Noilly Prat or a dry vermouth and add add 10ml of elderflower cordial – we like Bottle Green. Next, add 6 mint leaves, top up with ice and Castle Rock pale ale to taste. Stir gently and enjoy!”
Next up on the cocktail front row is the Lady Simplicity, riding high on the ever-popular gin trend with delicate touches of cucumber, mint and lime giving it a sweet edge.
Hot on the heels of Lady Simplicity is the Smoky Hot Bloody Mary, a cocktail that packs a fiery hit that’s not for the faint-hearted. This über-fashionable brunchtime treat is packed with ember-smoked tomatoes cooked on the OAKS grill and OAKS’ signature horseradish and mustard and brown smoked chilli sauces. The Smoky Hot Bloody Mary is available as part of the restaurant’s Bottomless Brunch deal on Saturdays between 12pm to 4pm. Diners can enjoy unlimited Bloody Mary or Prosecco with their meal for up to two hours.
From Sunday to Friday, OAKS invites people to SOAK up their week with all cocktails at £4.50. After 5pm on Tuesday and Wednesday OAKS, is also celebrating #Rumpday with an 8oz Sirloin steak and chips for £10 and £13.50 with a glass of wine. Customers can also try the new Sunday Roast from just £10 per person and kids eat for free. Brilliant Bubbles sees OAKS serving a carafe of fizz for just £10 between 5-10 pm Thursday and Friday evenings.
