Back in the day with the red , white and blue running through his veins Hulk Hogan was everywhere you looked whether it be in a wrestling ring or a TV show or even a cartoon character you couldn’t get away from the Hulkamania running wild.
Now days Hulk Hogan is part of TNA Impact wrestling and is normally the headliner if not the pulling power to put people on seats when TNA comes to town.
So lets talk about the game , Hulk Hogan’s Main Event is for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and it uses the Kinect sensor as a control system. The idea of the game is to impress the Hulkster and to have him in your corner throughout your wrestling career which is something that your character has dreamed of hitting the big time with the legend Hulk Hogan by your side.
I was excited to get this game having seen a early trailer it looked alrite, and seeing as Amazon website slashed the price to £5 I was quick to purchase this just to give it a go. No sooner did I get my kinect setup and the game in my system I noticed how a lot of the movement needed within the game was very similar which meant the game thought I was throwing a punch instead of a block.
You start on the career mode being shown a simple set of movements by Hulk Hogan in the bottom right hand corner of the screen you must follow these and time them right to win the match.
You have to block punches and jump over kicks that your opponent throws at you, you can also use chairs and ladders in different parts of the match, once you have taken enough health off your opponent it will then carry on to a different set of moves you must follow such as throws , clotheslines and then pins all of which you must follow the instructions and indicators given to you by Hogan.
I spent half the time throw aimless punches and headbutts at the other person in the ring just trying to take their health down to move onto the next section of the match because of the blocks and punches Hogan was telling me to pull off never connected or my would block it which meant Hogan’s instructions where wrong and lead to me getting taken down by my opponent because he would throw a punch and I was jumping because the move or block previous didn’t connect yet the indicator change quick enough to react in time.
I found even the main menu difficult to work my way around kind of like Michael Jackson The Experience where you have you move your hand to select the setting you want and then do a type of slap to confirm the option you have selected, I also got tired quite quickly because my moves where not connecting and my opponent kept landing his which meant I had to retry the match from the beginning or the point of where I was up to.
Career mode you just unlock different sections in which to train in for the other game modes in the quick play mode from the main menu I tend to use those quick play modes to get my achievements as I found it easier to retry those if I wasn’t successful in unlocking the achievement rather then starting the career mode again, I do like the cartoon colourful feel of the game and its just a real shame there is far to many moves which are too similar which forces the kinect sensor to think your blocking instead of throwing a punch.
Pointless with the create a wrestler mode as well as there really isn’t much point as there is no online play and no reason to spend half the day trying to select the right clothes or head gear to only shout at the TV because it selected the wrong one and its too annoying to bother to go back BROTHER!.
I wouldn’t pay no more then I did for the game when it takes a picture of you successfully finishing a match or a challenge each and every time in the picture I don’t look happy playing this game , but take the pictures from Kinect Adventures I am loving it by jumping around my front room.
If there was say only one hand that did a punch and the other to block and one foot for a knew and the other for a kick it would of worked better, and instead of jumping could of just done a block to reverse the attacks as its all about standing on the spot jumping all day long and not throwing any attacks as they never ‘Kinect’
Good – Mini Hogan In Bottom Corner
Bad – Gameplay | Controls | Detection | Graphics | Story | Longivity | Everything Else
