It’s cold, it’s December and town is getting busier! That must mean the panto is in town!
This year’s offering from Theatre Royal is Cinderella, with this season’s celebrity line up including Gareth Gates as Prince Charming, Richard Cadell as Buttons, Les Dennis and Connor McIntyre as the Ugly Sisters and not forgetting Sooty and Sweep…as themselves.

We all know the Cinderella story, but of course Christmas brings a pantomime twist to it. Full of laughs and in-jokes, you can’t fail to have fun at Theatre Royal’s famous pantomime. The ugly sister’s were full of Corrie related jokes, with their punishment for being mean to Cinders was to be sent to Albert Square *doof doof doof doof…*

Gareth Gates brought joy to female audience members of a certain age, who ‘whooped’ and giggled every time he spoke, let alone when he sang. He still has that cute charm about him.

Even more excited noises and participation came from other audience members of a certain age (ahem…me!) when Sooty and Sweep appeared. I genuinely think I cheered the loudest for Sweep, he has always been my childhood hero. Of course everybody knows the magic spell for Sooty too, if the kids didn’t their parents showed them. I could hear the cringe emitting from my teenage daughter whenever I shouted out.

I won’t spoil the little surprises but there is no 3D this year which was a tad disappointing, but there is something that is just as magical that happens, it drew gasps and ‘oohs’ from the auditorium and looks of wonder, the kids faces were priceless, but you will have to see for yourself, not telling.
There is plenty of time to catch Cinderella pantomime at the Theatre Royal, it is running until 5th January 2020…however, there is something special about going to see it before it at Christmas time.

Tickets available now here, enjoy the magic.
