Never one to pass up the opportunity of a cocktail or two I finally got
the chance to visit Hugo’s Bar in Sherwood with by good friend Jen

Every day passing by on the bus you can’t help but be drawn to the large
colourful sign in the window and many a time I’ve wanted to get off and
pop in

A lovely clean, minimalist layout awaits with plenty of seating without
looking cramped – largely down to the heightening of the ceiling which
is vibrantly filled with a rainbow of upside down umbrellas

A Raleigh bike is hanging on the wall along with some eye catching
pictures of abandoned buildings – utilising local talent and paying
homage to local firms

Owner Katherine is lovely and welcoming and has the personality that
makes you feel like you’ve stepped into your local even if it’s your
first visit – pull up a chair and have a chat and you’ll discover how
passionate and supportive she is of the local bars and restaurants and
that Hugo’s is named after her son and not their signature cocktail

Now what better way to start than with the signature The Hugo – a
classic mix of gin, Prosecco, lime, elderflower and mint – perfectly
Jen and I then sampled different flavours my favourite being The Casino
– just like sherbert delicious
We both agreed their Pornstar Martini was the best we’d tried in a long

What I really liked about this place is they don’t scrimp on ingredients
– you certainly get your money’s worth with premium spirits and strong
alcohol content – and no room for unnecessary ice on top unlike some

A great range of cocktails and mocktails that change approx. every
3mths, even better the expert mixologists will make you anything off
menu and with a weekly £5 cocktail of the week there is more than enough
to keep you coming back for more – plus there’s a phone holder in the
toilet (yes really – genius!)

Also offering Wines, bottled beers, soft drinks, tea & coffee with beer
and IPA on tap coming soon there is sure to be something for every

Pop in before or after a meal, catch up with colleagues after work, meet
your friends on a Saturday afternoon after a busy day shopping or get
your glad rags on and enjoy a more relaxed Saturday night – whatever the
occasion Hugo’s is both a “must do” stop off as well as a “stay all
night” kinda place

A great addition to the Sherwood area and I will certainly be getting off
the bus in future and popping in – definitely edged into my top 5 spots
for a drink with friends and top 3 for fantastically made cocktails

Hugo’s Bar Sherwood currently open 5pm-midnight Wed-Fri and 2pm-midnight
Sat with extended summer opening
