I know you don’t usually hear from me on a Saturday morning, but I wanted to get in touch to remind you of a CCP gaming charity event taking place later today- and hopefully enlist your help.
As I’m sure you know over the last couple of weeks CCP and the EVE Online community have been running ‘The PLEX For Good’ campaign to raise money for the Icelandic Red Cross to help with relief efforts for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
With PLEX for Good players have been able to donate in game currency (PLEX), and with each donated PLEX, the game’s developer, CCP has contributed $15 (£9.32) to the Icelandic Red Cross.
It’s been huge success and it’s lovely to think that while in the EVE universe its players are known for being notoriously devious, in real life they’re really a generous bunch.
It says great things about gamers and gamer culture when people are so willing to be this generous and it ties so directly into their gaming life!
So to mark the end of this particular drive- and as a big ‘thank you’ to the EVE Online community – starting this afternoon at 13:00 UTC/GMT and going on until 21:00 UTC/GMT tonight CCP is holding an 8 hour charity “telethon” on Twitch TV. This is the link to the stream: http://twitch.tv/ccp
As part of the Telethon and as the community gives donations, the EVE developers have promised to do some pretty extreme (but fun!) things to entertain viewers for hitting pledge milestones like getting shot by paintballs, having their heads shaved, getting EVE themed tattoos and even fighting Tae Kwon Do masters! It promises to be loads of fun and all in support of a good, serious cause and we’d like to get as much of the gaming community as possible involved.
What we’re asking is for you to please embed the stream details in your social media, and any news stories, so we can let as many people as possible know about the event so they have the chance to take part.
As with the entire PLEX For Good campaign Eve Online players demanded this effort and we’re just helping to coordinate it, so we’re hoping for all the support we can get.
Thank you in advance for any help you’re able to give with raising awareness on this, and see you on the Twitch stream later!
